When she received the ring and handed it to Margaret Herzog's daughter, Sonia Goldner, she told Brandenburg State media that her mother had been upset, sad and depressed all her life after losing her wedding ring. 

He also said that my mother was convinced till the last moment that the lost ring would never be found again. Margaret Herzog passed away in 1996 at the age of 87.
