Horrible consequences of drinking hand sanitizer

WASHINGTON: Three people have died after drinking a hand sanitizer in the United States, while another victim has lost the ability to see permanently due to a chemical compound called methanol.

According to a report by Global News, methanol is used exclusively in the manufacture of hand sanitizers, the deadly effects of which have killed 3 people in the United States.

In the US state of Mexico City, three people died after drinking hand sanitizer and one went blind for life, the state health department confirmed.

The health department said the first incident of drinking hand sanitizer occurred on May 7, after which seven more cases were reported, of which three died, while the rest are undergoing treatment but their condition is also critical.

According to experts, sanitizers contain high levels of the chemical compound methanol, which can damage the body's nervous system forever. Preliminary reports suggest the victims may have used a hand sanitizer as a drug and died from drinking.

Last week, US officials warned companies that make hand sanitizers to reduce chemical levels to protect citizens from any harmful effects.
